Huaraz – Pitec – Laguna Churup – Pitec – Huaraz
We set off at 7.00am and travel in private transport to Pitec, at an altitude of 3800m. The bus journey takes an hour and the walk up to the lake 2 – 3 hours. The route to the lake is a continuous uphill and in parts is steep.
This is a particularly picturesque trek in which we enjoy the Andean panorama. The final section of this trek is a challenging scramble but our efforts are rewarded with spectacular views and magnificent tranquility at the side of the sparkling turquoise lake. The guide takes a rope which is used if deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the clients.
The Laguna Churup has an altitude of 4400m. The group spends 1.5 – 2 hours at the side of the lake, depending on the time available. Hikers can walk around the lake, take a brief swim if they are feeling brave or just rest and enjoy the views. The return to the bus only takes an hour or so and we arrive back at Huaraz around 3pm. This is an ideal trek for acclimatization.
